Danger zone: A woman ice-skates across Whitestone Pond in Hampstead Heath while pushing a buggy with a child - in the background it seems that her other child has fallen over
If they were skating on thin ice, this young mother was not unduly concerned.
Onlookers were shocked as the woman, wearing black skates, took her tiny baby’s buggy out on to a frozen pond.
Although the mercury was barely below zero on Boxing Day in Hampstead, North London, she took the risk that the ice would hold.
Another toddler, seen in the background, seemed to have slipped over without breaking through.
Whitestone Pond, on the borders of Hampstead Heath, is barely half a metre deep, and marks the highest point in London.
Experts recommend skating at the side of a pond, as the ice is thinner in the middle, and not to skate on a pond deeper than two to three feet.
Pond life: In this picture the woman's partner, also in skates, appears to join in with another child. The scene was captured around lunchtime on Boxing Day
